A five-day study visit within the Erasmus + project “Assisting Better Communication” (ABC) was held from 11th to 15th September 2017. The study visit was organized by the Department of Speech Therapy of the University of Aveiro, Portugal. The purpose of the study visit was to get familiar with the latest trends in the field of speech therapy.
The study visit was attended by representatives of Ilia State University from Georgia, University of Tuzla, University of East Sarajevo from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgian Institute Of Public Affairs, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University,Portage Association of Georgia, Step Forward Association of Georgia, Haifa University, Gordon Academic College of Education and Ono Academic College from Israel. Representatives from the University of Tuzla were Professor Mirela Duranović, PhD and Professor Meliha Bijedić, PhD.
Five days of intensive training covered the following topics: Preparing for the future, New Learning Trends in Speech Therapy: Problem Based Learning and Simulations, Traditional Experiences at the University of Aveiro, Techniques and Approaches in Speech Therapy, Parent Education, Nutrition Disorders and Swallowing, Social Activism and Speech Therapy, Adaptation and Standardization of Measuring Instruments.
During the study visit, the participants had the opportunity to visit the North Rehabilitation Centre where practical work with patients with swallowing disorders was presented. They also visited the Portuguese Institute for Aphasia, where the work with patients with aphasia and their families was presented.
